The Orange Bowl is an annual college football game which is played in Miami , Florida on January 1. The game was played at the Orange Bowl Stadium from 1935 to 1995, and was moved to Pro Player Stadium in 1996. The corporate title sponsor of the game is FedEx which was known as formerly Federal Express since 1989. Started in 1933, the Orange Bowl in Miami has played host to some of the most famous football game sin history. It is the second oldest Bowl game and is a part of the Miami Palm Festival. The festival is nation's most awaited event by the fans. The first game was played on January1, 1935, at Orange Bowl Stadium. Miami played against Manhattan and won over them 7-0 in the Moore Park Field. In 1939, Earnie Seiler became the Orange Bowl's first permanent business manager. During the 1940s Orange Bowl had some star players such as Paul Christman (1940), Georgia 's Frankie Sinkwich (1942), Boston College 's Mike Holovak (1943), LSU's Steve Van Buren (1944), Georgia Tech's Frank Broyles (1945) and Texas ' Tom Landry (1949). They contributed a lot to the game. During the 1950s the team included some new players and two leading teams played in Miami . In 1954, ACC and Big Seven conferences signed up for a five year contract. In the same decade, Oklahoma team played four times in the Orange Bowl Classic. In 1965, Orange Bowl held its first game at night becoming the first bowl game to be held at night. Nebraska once more played for the Orange Bowl in 1971 and clutched the National Championship title by beating LSU (17-12).In the 1980s Orange Bowl put together four national championship games and the Miami's won two championship titles. They sponsorship of the bowl was also taken by FedEx during the era. The Orange Bowl hosted the leading teams and also became the part of Alliance Bowl. Covering around 7 decades Orange Bowl has hosted 15 national champions belonging to Miami . In 1994, the Orange Bowl board shifted the game to Pro Player Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale .
